Every year about this time we hear the same complaint: clients need to get in to see their medical providers, but appointments are very hard to come by. There are a number of reasons for this: it’s cold and flu season so clinics are unusually full, doctors are taking off for holiday vacations, and medical offices are closed, sometimes for days at a time, in observance of Christmas and New Years. Patients, on the other hand, are not only competing for appointment slots for urgent medical issues, they’re also spending down on their HSA’s (health savings accounts) or trying to meet their insurance deductibles before year’s end. Add to this the usual stress of the holidays, and you’ve got yourself a messy situation.
So, Pathfinders is offering a simple solution, in hopes of improving our readers’ experiences next year. It’s incredibly simple, and pretty obvious, and yet few of us think to do it: make yourself a note on your calendar, for say September of 2014, that says: “Make doctor’s appointments!”. Then, call your medical office and schedule, for December, all the appointments you might need before the end of the year, knowing you can always cancel them if it turns out they’re not necessary. Yes, you might find that you don’t get the timing exactly right, so there might be a necessary schedule change here and there. And yes, not all medical offices calendars will be open that early. But at least you’ll have started the process before the inevitable crunch, and you’ll be way ahead of the game when December rolls around.
Pretty easy huh?
